Cycle — Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how Ali3N Studios LLC (“we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and protects information in connection with the Cycle mobile application (“App”). This policy supplements our general Ali3N Studios Privacy Policy.

Cycle is a mood-cycle companion for adults living with, or exploring, bipolar disorder. We take the privacy of your mental health data extremely seriously. We do not sell your data, we do not show ads, and we do not share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.

1. Data We Collect

Authentication Data

The App uses Firebase Authentication. You may continue as an anonymous guest, or sign in with email/password or Google. When you sign in, we receive your name (where provided), email address, and a unique user ID, used solely for account management and syncing your data across devices.

Daily Mood Logs

Your daily entries — highest and lowest mood ratings, hours of sleep, energy, irritability, anxiety, and any notes — are stored in Firebase Firestore for signed-in accounts, or only on your device in guest mode. This powers your dashboard, charts, and the early-warning awareness features.

Episode Logs

When you log an episode, its type (manic, hypomanic, mixed, depressive), severity, start/end dates, suspected triggers, and notes are stored. Used to build your record between appointments and to power pattern analysis.

Medications & Adherence

Medications you add (name, dose, frequency) and your daily “taken / not taken” check-ins are stored to show streaks and compliance trends. Cycle never recommends, prescribes, or adjusts medications.

Journal Entries

Reflection journal entries are stored in Firebase Firestore (signed-in) or locally (guest mode), visible only to you, and used to power optional weekly AI theme summaries.

Screener Data

When you complete the MDQ or HCL-32 screener, your responses, score, and any AI interpretation are stored under your account so results can be shown later. Screening results are never shared with third parties. Screeners are informational and are not a diagnosis.

AI Mood Consult

Messages you send to the in-app AI companion, and the relevant mood/screening context, are transmitted to our secure AI backend to generate a response (see Section 2).

2. How the AI Features Work

Cycle’s AI interpretations, weekly summaries, communication scripts, and Mood Consult are generated by a large language model (Anthropic Claude) accessed through Amazon Web Services (AWS) Bedrock, via our own secure server endpoint (api.ali3nstudios.com). When you use an AI feature, only the text needed for that request (e.g., your screener answers, recent mood figures, or your message) is sent. This data is processed to generate your response and is not used to train AI models and is not retained by the model provider for advertising. We never send your authentication identity to the model.

3. Trusted Person Mode (Optional)

If you choose to create a Trusted Person share, Cycle generates a read-only summary of only the fields you select (e.g., mood range, sleep, episode counts) and stores it under an unguessable link so the person you send it to can view it in a browser. It never includes your journal entries or raw notes. Shares expire automatically after 90 days, and you can revoke any share at any time, which deletes it immediately.

4. What We Do Not Collect

  • No advertising identifiers — Cycle contains no ads and no ad SDKs.
  • No location tracking.
  • No selling or sharing of personal data with data brokers or advertisers.
  • No third-party analytics that profile you for marketing.

5. Storage & Security

Signed-in data is stored in Google Firebase (Authentication and Firestore) under security rules that restrict each user’s data to that user. Guest-mode data stays on your device. Data in transit is encrypted (HTTPS/TLS).

6. Data Retention & Deletion

We retain your data until you delete it. You can delete your account and all associated cloud data at any time, in-app or by request — see Delete Your Cycle Account.

7. Children

Cycle is intended for users aged 16 and older and is not directed to children under 13.

8. Not a Medical Device

Cycle is a self-tracking and educational tool. It does not diagnose, treat, or provide medical advice, and it is not a substitute for evaluation by a qualified clinician. If you are in crisis, the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (call or text 988 in the US) is available 24/7.
